At Cubner, CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) translates into a concrete commitment to the circular economy. By reusing second-hand shipping containers for storage and modular housing, Cubner gives these steel structures a second life, thus reducing its clients' carbon footprint by more than 95% compared to new construction. We also use bio-based materials (sprayed cork for insulation, wood wool) and transport them using B100 biofuel.

What is the carbon footprint of a used shipping container versus a new one?

According to data from ADEME (Base Carbone), a used 20-foot shipping container generates approximately 0,2 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, compared to 4,4 tonnes for a new one. This represents a 95,5% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. For a 40-foot container, the savings are even more significant: 0,4 tonnes of CO2 equivalent versus 8,6 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, or 8,2 tonnes of CO2 avoided per container.

What is the B100 biofuel used by Cubner?

B100 (or Oleo100) is a 100% plant-based biofuel produced from rapeseed grown in France. Unlike conventional biodiesel (B7 or B30), it contains no fossil fuels. Its advantages include: 60% lower CO2 emissions compared to diesel, 80% fewer fine particles, zero sulfur, and 99% biodegradability in 21 days. It is approved for heavy goods vehicles and used by Cubner for all its container deliveries within France.
