An insulated container is a shipping container from which the refrigeration unit has been removed or is no longer functional. It retains high-performance insulation and a stainless steel interior, making it suitable for storing food or chemical products. Unlike reefer containers, it does not have an active refrigeration unit.
We offer two ranges of insulated containers:
- Container with refrigeration unit out of service, still physically present (decontaminated and emptied of its refrigerant if requested).
- Container without refrigeration unit, replaced by a polyurethane (PU) foam sandwich panel.

Available sizes: from 10 feet to 45 feet
Our range includes insulated containers in 10ft, 20ft, 40ft, and 45ft sizes. Are you looking for a temperature-controlled storage solution? In that case, check out our 20 foot reefer containers et 40 foot reefer.
Price of an insulated container: a competitive solution
The insulated container is very competitively priced. It retains all the features of a reefer container, but without the refrigeration unit (Daikin, Thermoking, Carrier, etc.). Prices start at €3,900 excluding VAT and delivery. However, prices fluctuate regularly depending on sea freight rates.
Insulated container capacity according to sizes
The insulated container measures 3 m in the 10-foot version, 6 m in the 20-foot version, and 12 m in the 40-foot version. Less common, a 13 m solution exists with the 45-foot High Cube container in an insulated version. If you are looking for an active cold room, discover our flagship product: the 40-foot High Cube reefer container. For a smaller capacity, opt for a 20 foot reefer container.
Versatility: industry and agriculture
This container, available in various lengths, is ideally suited for industrial and agricultural applications. For example, it reduces fruit and vegetable losses by protecting the produce from external temperature fluctuations.
Durability and robustness of the insulated container
The insulated container is based on a reefer shipping container, designed for long-term durability. Its thick walls and stainless steel or aluminum interior lining make thorough cleaning easy after each use.
Enhanced security for the insulated container
The insulated container offers a solid and robust structure. It remains difficult to force entry. Furthermore, the addition of a Cubner padlock further enhances its security.
Multimodal transport: truck, barge and container ship
The insulated shipping container is easy to transport thanks to its standardized ISO corners. It is a standard solution in international freight. Therefore, it fits easily onto trucks, barges, and container ships.
A modular container for your projects
The insulated shipping container is suitable for a wide range of projects. Its insulation and interior lining allow for quick conversion into a food processing or storage unit. Our Calcub production unit will assist you in adapting the container to your project, with pricing tailored to your needs.
Compliance and international standards
Our containers meet international standards. In particular, we include a pre-trip inspection (PTI) on our used refrigerated containers. This inspection guarantees proper operation across various temperature ranges.
Here are the main applicable standards and certifications:
- The ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standard governs the identification and dimensions of shipping containers.
- CSC (International Convention for Secure Containers) certification imposes approval and quality rules for shipping containers.
- The COA (Container Owners Association) establishes best practices for the care, maintenance and repair of equipment.
What is an insulated container?
An insulated container is a refrigerated shipping container (reefer) whose refrigeration unit is out of service, either left as is or removed. It retains its thermal insulation and stainless steel interior, allowing for the storage of food or chemical products protected from temperature fluctuations, without active refrigeration regulation.
What is the difference between an insulated container and a reefer container?
The refrigerated container has a functional refrigeration unit that regulates the internal temperature. The insulated container, on the other hand, no longer has a refrigeration unit: it only maintains the temperature. insulation thermal and the interior lining is made of stainless steel. It protects goods from temperature fluctuations but does not produce cold.
What sizes of insulated containers are available?
Cubner offers insulated containers in 10-foot (approximately 3 m long), 20-foot (approximately 6 m long), 40-foot (approximately 12 m long), and 45-foot high cube (approximately 13 m long) sizes. This range meets a variety of storage needs, from small volumes to large, isolated warehouses.
What is the price of an insulated container?
Our rates start from €3,900 excluding VAT and delivery. Prices vary depending on the size of the container, its condition (first voyage or used) and maritime market conditions.
What are the common uses of an insulated container?
Insulated containers are frequently used in the food processing and agricultural industries to protect fruits, vegetables, and other foodstuffs from temperature fluctuations. They are also used for storing sensitive chemicals and can be converted into food processing or storage units thanks to their easy-to-clean stainless steel interior.
Who is the insulated container intended for and what professions might need it?
The insulated container is suitable for a wide range of professionals. It is particularly well-suited to farmers and agricultural cooperatives (for storing fruits, vegetables, and harvests protected from temperature fluctuations), food industry professionals (butchers, fishmongers, caterers, restaurateurs) for temporary or seasonal storage, chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturers for storing sensitive products, logistics and refrigerated transport companies needing isolated storage space without refrigeration, local authorities and event organizers (markets, festivals, fairs) for temporarily storing food, and military and defense personnel for isolated storage needs in the field. Its versatility makes it an economical solution for any professional needing to protect their goods from temperature variations without investing in a refrigeration unit.
